IC Environmental Society

The IThaca College Environmental Society has been a huge part of my life for the past four years.  I have been on the executive board for the past four semesters.  ICES is a general environmental club that oversees all environmental clubs on campus.

We are a central club for students looking to learn more about issues and get involved.  We organize teach-ins, earth week activities, travel to national rallys, and so much more.  It was a pleasure being a part of such an amazing community of students learning and growing together.

Besides ICES I have been involved in many other clubs around campus.  Bomber Bikes (photo to left) is a bike advocacy club that promotes blike culture on campus.

I also am part of Ithaca College Frack Off which is our on campus anti fracking club which works to educate students about the harms of fracking.

IC Feminists is another group that has had a huge impact on me.  IC Fems has taught me a lot about empowerment and feminism.

I guess you can say I like to be involved, it cant be too bad of a thing I guess.

Here on the right we are at a farm near Ithaca in the fall of 2012.  We try to get out of the classroom and do fun activities together.

We have done things like camping trips, recycling center tours, trips to DC, potlucks and more!

This year I organized a trip of two buses of IC and Cornell students to head down to Washington DC for the largest climate rally in history called Forward on Climate.  It was directed at the Keystone XL Pipeline but also adressed other issues like fracking and mountain top removal coal mining.  It was important for me to get the underclass students to experience showing their direct democracy.  I think large rallies are extremely symbolic and powerful.
